What does the State of Ohio require for drivers ed?

The State of Ohio requires everyone under the age of 20 to take 24 hours of classroom and 8 hours of driving with a licensed driving school and hold their temps for 6 months.  Parent/Guardian are also required to do 50 hours of driving with their student before they get their license. Students 18-20 can do the 50 hours with anyone who is 21 with a valid license.

Do I have to document the 50 hours with a parent/guardian?

Yes. Ohio now requires you show proof of all 50 hours that you have driven. There is a new updated 50 hour affidavit at the top of this site for your convenience. There is also an app you can download called "Road Ready Ohio"

Do I need to take all 6 classes in a row?

No. Each class is a separate lesson. You can take each class in an order that is convenient to your schedule however, you do need to start on Day 1 and Day 6 would need to be completed last as that is the day for the final test. The other days can be made up in subsequent classes.

How is the class taught?

Our program is taught the old fashioned way, with the instructor leading a discussion lecture on different teaching topics and using videos on topics that cannot be taught easily. Chapter quizzes are given for each lesson and a final state generated classroom test is given on the last day of class.

When can I make my driving appointments?

If you do in person classes and have your temps when you attend class we will schedule your in car lessons while you are in class for after classes are complete. If you choose to do online classes you cannot schedule any behind the wheel lessons until you fully complete the online course and receive your certificate of completion from the online school.

When will my in car lessons start?

Current wait time to get behind the wheel lessons scheduled is typically 8-12 weeks out.  We do have a wait list we can put students on if they have a lot of experience and have held their temps for a while.

Do I need to have driving experience before I start in cars?

Yes. We require that you have at least 5 hours of driving on regular roads before your first in car lesson. Only driving in a parking lot is not sufficient practice. Our job as driving instructors is to perfect the skills you already have and to put you in higher risk scenarios so you are fully prepared to be and independent drivers at the end of the 8 hours. Not having at least 5 hours on the road experience will greatly limit the situations we can put you in. If you do not have the proper amount of hours we will cancel the lesson and you will be subject to a cancelation fee.

Are your instructors licensed?

The State of Ohio requires instructors to complete a 40 hour course of instruction. The State also checks their driving record and their fingerprints for any criminal record. Our instructors have over 15 years of driving experience.

How long must I schedule each in car lesson for?

The normal in car lesson is scheduled for 2 hours.

Where does the student meet the instructor for driving?

Our instructors pick up the students who live in our area at home or school. If the students are outside of our area they will be required to meet us at the office.
